The new Europe Market Development Program (EMDP) is designed to provide experienced Atlantic Canadian small and medium-sized exporting companies with:

  • In-market business development advisory services for 20 days to grow export sales and establish new business relationships. This could include assisting with a market-entry work plan, helping to navigate regulatory issues, and identifying key decision-makers and influencers.
  • Access to temporary office space for up to three weeks in target markets. The timing and access to office and meeting space in Europe will depend on individual work plans and the lifting of restrictions on international travel.

Together with the Program’s In-market Business Consultant team, trade opportunities and business performance expectations will be established for each participating company upon their acceptance into the Program and managed throughout the consultancy and follow-up period.

Participation in the Program requires a strong management commitment, an ongoing performance reporting commitment, and an initial financial investment of $4,750 CAD plus HST payable upon acceptance into the Program.

Who is Eligible?

The EMPD will support 28 Atlantic Canadian experienced exporters looking to strategically expand their Europe business over the next year, with space for seven companies from each Atlantic province. Program applications for the initial cohort of 12 companies are open June 12th and must be received by July 10, 2020. Atlantic Canadian companies with export plans for Belgium, The Netherlands and/or Germany will be given priority for acceptance into the first cohort. Applications for subsequent Program intakes will be reviewed quarterly.

Who is OCO Global?

OCO Global has been selected by the Program management from a competitive process to lead the efforts of the Program in Europe. They are a full-service global business consultancy firm specializing in trade and investment. Headquartered in the UK (Belfast), they also have offices in London, Frankfurt, Dublin, and Paris.

OCO Global has responsibility for administration and reporting, market research and delivery of market webinars, and providing direct support to companies. The value of the tailored business service is $19,000 CAD per company while the company fees are only $4,750 (25% of the value).

OCO Global is providing a series of eight webinars in June on the current environment, trends and upcoming opportunities in Europe. These webinars will be complemented with sector reports. The series of webinars serve as a ‘soft-launch’ for the Program.

Application Information:

Applications are now being accepted for this Program. Atlantic Canadian companies with export plans for Belgium, The Netherlands and/or Germany will be given priority during the initial intake of 12 eligible companies. Applications for market development into other European countries will be given equal consideration for future Program intakes which are expected to occur on a quarterly basis.
