May 19, 2017, MONCTON (GNB) – New Brunswick’s business services centres are seeking recent graduates, new immigrants and others looking for meaningful careers to fill more than 2,000 job openings in the sector, including home-based work.
Opportunities NB has partnered with Contact NB in a public awareness campaign aimed at informing potential employees about the career opportunities available in the sector across the province.
The campaign, The Future Is Here — Answer The Call, shares the stories of individuals who have found rewarding careers in the business services centre sector. The campaign launched May 17 on digital channels and social media. A website, answernb.ca (English) and repondrenb.ca (French), is now live, sharing these stories and connecting New Brunswickers to job opportunities.
“Job creation and economic development are the top priorities for our government,” said Finance Minister Cathy Rogers. “For more than 25 years, the business services centre sector has been a key component in the New Brunswick economy, and it continues to evolve and grow, generating about $1 billion in export revenue per year. We are pleased to support this industry in its recruitment efforts.”
Rogers spoke on behalf of Economic Development Minister Francine Landry, who is also minister responsible for Opportunities NB.
The sector employs more than 18,000 people across 90 centres in the province. It offers career opportunities with some of the world’s most-recognized companies, including TD Insurance, WestJet, Sears, and Medavie Blue Cross.
“Our industry has evolved so much since we first arrived in New Brunswick,” said Robert Campbell, president of Contact NB. “Careers are available across the province in customer service, sales, technical support, credit, investment, and management training, among others. No matter what industry you are interested in, our businesses have something for everyone.”
One example featured in the campaign is Mathieu Wood of Moncton. After graduating from university he began to work at Asurion. He was seeking a stable job to pay off debts and, 20 years later, is still with the company but now in a senior leadership role.
“I was looking for a company that made developing employees a priority,” said Wood. “When I got to Asurion, I knew it was the place for me. By working really hard, I was able to pay off my debt relatively quickly and begin my journey within the contact service industry.”
Opportunities NB is a Crown corporation that seeks to attract and support opportunities to grow the economy and create jobs. It provides support services for businesses across the province.
