January 4, 2017, FREDERICTON (GNB) – The business services centre industry, formerly known as the contact centre industry, will modernize their image and vision beginning in 2017. Identified as a growth opportunity in the New Brunswick Economic Growth Plan, a government and industry committee have worked together to set a vision for 2021.
“Our vision for the New Brunswick business services centre sector is to be a global leader, identifying and addressing corporate needs while providing stable, well-paid employment and economic value to the province’s residents,” said Economic Development Minister Francine Landry, who is also minister responsible for Opportunities NB.
The sector has been active in the province for more than 25 years and has more than 18,000 full-time staff operating in 90 centres. The vision, created by the 19-member committee, will focus on four strategic pillars: education and awareness, human resource development, technology development and active account management, to accomplish their vision. As a priority for job creation, Opportunities NB has three dedicated staff to help attract and retain businesses within this sector.
“Opportunities NB’s goal for the sector is to evolve it to a recognized global leader delivering higher-value services, with sustained employment and wage growth,” said CEO Stephen Lund. “The specific objectives are to grow full-time employment in the industry and increase the average salary.”
The committee is comprised of industry leaders, account managers from Opportunities NB and Service New Brunswick staff who have experience in the sector.
