Cam Tran to create 15 jobs in Sackville

SACKVILLE (GNB) – An Ontario-based company is opening a manufacturing facility in Sackville with support from the provincial government. Cam Tran specializes in the manufacturing, repair and renewal of electrical distribution transformers.

“Job creation is instrumental to your government’s multi-year economic growth plan,” said Memramcook-Tantramar MLA Bernard LeBlanc. “We are so pleased that Cam Tran has recognized the strong skilled workforce in New Brunswick so it can grow its Canadian and international markets.”

LeBlanc attended for Economic Development Minister Francine Landry, who is also the minister responsible for Opportunities NB.

Cam Tran has purchased the assets of the former Moloney Services plant in Sackville and hired several of that company’s former employees, putting skilled labourers back to work in their chosen field.

The company employs more than 260 people across Canada. The 15 new jobs expected to be filled at the Sackville location within the first few months of operation include a plant manager, welders, coil winders, administrative staff, wire assembly technicians and machine operators.

“This is a great opportunity for Cam Tran to grow as a significant player in the re-establishment of electrical power in regions affected by natural disasters,” said company president Kyle Campbell. “We plan on being instrumental in helping storm-hit areas in the Caribbean get their communities back up and running, and much of that work will be done in Sackville. It is also important that we build long-term relationships with the Atlantic Canadian power companies. We greatly appreciate the support of Opportunities NB and the province in enabling us to expand into eastern Canada.”

It is estimated that the creation of 15 jobs would contribute $2.3 million to the province’s GDP over six years.

Establishing the Sackville plant required an investment of $900,000, which includes land, building and equipment purchases, along with renovations.

To support the project, the company is eligible for an investment of up to $115,000 from Opportunities NB, which is a Crown corporation that seeks to attract and support opportunities to grow the economy and create jobs. It provides support services for businesses across the province. The investment comes in the form of a non-repayable contribution.

Cam Tran expects to have 35 people employed at the Sackville facility by 2020.
