January 16, 2017, FREDERICTON (GNB) – The provincial government plans to capitalize upon its existing assets to nurture further growth in one of Canada’s fastest-growing industries.

The province has made gains in the business support service sector, thanks in part to its bilingual workforce, telecommunications infrastructure and existing firms.

“The business services centre sector is an evolving industry, as customer interaction and business services continue to move online,” said Economic Development Minister Francine Landry, who is also minister responsible for Opportunities NB. “By addressing any challenges as they arise, we will create new opportunities for high-paying and skilled jobs in New Brunswick, especially for our young people.”

The business services centres sector was identified as a priority in the New Brunswick Economic Growth Plan. The sector represents one of the largest export sectors for the province, generating close to $1 billion per year in export revenue. As the industry is spread across the province, all areas will have the opportunity to benefit from its growth.

“While New Brunswick continues to make significant strides forward, it is critical that we work together to ensure this province remains a competitive place to work, live and raise a family,” said Landry.

The province’s people are its most valuable resource, said Landry, and can turn the plan into a reality as they embrace these opportunities and create success for themselves and the province.

Opportunities NB will lead the government’s efforts in this area with support from the Department of Post-Secondary Education, Training and Labour, the Regional Development Corporation and the Jobs Board Secretariat. The industry association will also be an important partner, as will community colleges.
