April 18, 2017, PETIT-PAQUETVILLE (GNB) — Distillerie Fils du Roy, an award-winning New Brunswick distillery, is growing thanks in part to investments from the provincial government.
The company, founded in 2012, produces several kinds of spirits including gin, vodka, rum, liqueurs and beer. Company founder and master distiller Sébastien Roy is also aiming to produce the province’s first single-malt whisky.
The provincial government is supporting the company with a total non-repayable investment of $29,113. Opportunities NB is providing $22,008 and the Regional Development Corporation is providing $7,105.
“This investment supports one of the growth opportunities identified in the New Brunswick Economic Growth Plan, supporting the local food and beverage industry,” said Economic Development Minister Francine Landry, who is also minister responsible for Opportunities NB. “We are pleased to assist a successful company like Distillerie Fils du Roy with its growth plans. This investment not only helps the distillery achieve its goals, but it also supports capital investment in rural New Brunswick.”
The company’s products have won awards, including at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition, thanks to the recipes developed by Roy. The distillery currently employs four full-time and two part-time staff, along with two to four seasonal workers.
“The grants received from Opportunities NB have helped us to make decisions more quickly and they have also been able to support us in the growth of our company,” said Roy.
Opportunities NB is a Crown corporation that seeks to attract and support opportunities to grow the economy and create jobs. It provides support services for businesses across the province.
