October 12, 2016, BEIJING (GNB) – Premier Brian Gallant met with senior executives of the Chinese e-commerce company JD.Com to promote New Brunswick’s premium food products.
Gallant was accompanied by representatives from the New Brunswick companies Dantra Specialty Products, LA Trading Co., Groupe Westco, Cooke Aquaculture, Oxford Frozen Foods and Prelam Entreprises, and had an opportunity to give presentations featuring their premium products.
JD.Com has more than 200 million users and is China’s largest e-commerce platform in terms of revenue. The company offers a wide selection of products which it delivers to its customers. The company’s huge warehouse in China allows for direct imports of Canadian food products. In June the company featured a promotion in which more than 100,000 lobsters were sold and delivered.
“Enhancing trade opportunities for New Brunswick businesses will help create jobs in our province,” said Gallant. “When you see the impact a company like JD.Com can have in the export of lobster alone, you can predict the outcome that building these relationships will have on our economy.”
The Canadian Embassy has an agreement to work with JD.Com, with a focus on their JD Fresh department.
New Brunswick companies, including Lulujo and Dizzolve, have already experienced increased sales through these e-commerce platforms.
Gallant is leading New Brunswick’s largest-ever multi-sector delegation to China with more than 15 business and two universities participating in the nine-day mission.
