January 3, 2018, FREDERICTON (GNB) – For the second year in a row, Opportunities NB has been named one of Atlantic Canada’s Top Employers.
“Opportunities NB has demonstrated that a great workplace culture can motivate employees to do excellent work and achieve results that benefit our entire province,” said Economic Development Minister Francine Landry, who is also minister responsible for Opportunities NB. “I am pleased with their results and the importance the organization places on ensuring employee satisfaction and engagement.”
The designation comes from the editors of Canada’s Top 100 Employers who compare organizations in a particular field to determine which offers the most progressive and forward-thinking programs in the following areas:
- physical workplace;
- work atmosphere and social;
- health, financial and family benefits;
- vacation and time off;
- employee communications;
- performance management;
- training and skills development; and
- community involvement.
In June 2017, Opportunities NB established a baseline survey to evaluate the culture and employee engagement in the organization. The results showed that with an 80 per cent participation rate, 95 per cent of employees have had a positive experience and would recommend the company to those seeking employment.
“We know that great opportunities exist here in New Brunswick, and we aim to model what is possible in the province,” said CEO Stephen Lund. “We are exceeding our targets and helping companies choose to grow here because of the talent and professionalism on our team. We are honoured to be recognized among many other excellent employers in New Brunswick, and we thank our employees for their continued hard work and dedication.”
Culture was made a priority by Lund upon the organization’s inception in April 2015.
“I received a handwritten note from our CEO on my first day, personally welcoming me to Opportunities NB,” said Eric Lewis, communications specialist. “Within the first week, I was asked out for lunch by colleagues in several departments. It was clear I was not just ‘the new guy,’ but I was already a member of the team. I have never experienced such a warm reception from an employer before.”
Other New Brunswick employers named to the Top Employers list include CAA Atlantic Ltd. (Saint John), Irving Oil (Saint John), Medavie Blue Cross (Moncton), NBCC (Fredericton) and University of New Brunswick (Fredericton).
Opportunities NB is a Crown corporation that seeks to attract and support opportunities to grow the economy and create jobs in New Brunswick. It provides support services for businesses across the province.
