Wyndham Hotels and Resorts expands Saint John location creating up to 109 jobs

SAINT JOHN (GNB) – Wyndham Hotels & Resorts Canada is expanding operations at its business services centre in Saint John, creating up to 109 jobs over the next three years with support from the provincial government.

“Growing the business services centre industry is a part of New Brunswick’s multi-year economic growth plan which is creating job opportunities,” said Premier Brian Gallant. “Wyndham is a globally recognized brand with a history of creating jobs for New Brunswickers. This economic opportunity is yet another example of your government’s commitment to help create growth for the City of Saint John and here in New Brunswick.”

With its client base growing, the Saint John centre has increased services with departments including Reservations, Wyndham Rewards, Hotel Technology Client Support and Enterprise Support Services. The centre’s workforce management, human resources, finance and global talent management teams serve as support for the multiple operational groups around the world.

New Brunswick’s business services centre sector employs 18,000 people and contributes an estimated $1 billion to the province’s GDP annually. The industry is identified as a strategic opportunity in the multi-year New Brunswick Economic Growth Plan.

“Whether walking through the doors of any of our 9,000 hotels across 20 brands in 80 countries around the world, or calling our contact centre, Wyndham Hotels & Resorts is dedicated to providing world-class service and hospitality to our clients,” said Kevin Dunne, senior vice-president, Global Contacts Centers for the company. “Our Saint John community is home to one of the most engaged and talented workforces in the New Brunswick province, and thanks to our strong partnership with the Government of New Brunswick and Opportunities NB, we are able to meet the growing needs of our team.”

It is estimated that creating 109 jobs would contribute $15.3 million in direct GDP for the province over three years and generate $770,000 in provincial income taxes over the same period.

To support the creation of these jobs, the company is eligible for an investment of up to $575,000 from Opportunities NB, which is a Crown corporation that works to attract and support opportunities to grow the economy and create jobs. It provides support services for businesses across New Brunswick.

The investment will be in the form of payroll rebates, which are performance-based and only given to a company once it has met criteria set out in its agreement. Wyndham will receive a payroll rebate annually, based on the percentage of the salary of every job filled that meets the conditions outlined in the agreement.

Recently spun from its former parent company, Wyndham Worldwide, Wyndham Hotels & Resorts has been in New Brunswick for more than 23 years and currently employs more than 640 people in the Saint John office.
