September 28, 2015, SAINT-JACQUES (GNB) – The provincial government announced today that it is investing to assist Prelco Inc. in expanding operations at its specialized glass manufacturing plant in Saint-Jacques and creating 20 new full-time manufacturing and administrative positions.
“We are pleased that Prelco has chosen to grow by bringing more skilled jobs to northwestern New Brunswick,” said Premier Brian Gallant. “This expansion will increase productivity at the company and position it for growth, while also boosting the provincial economy and supporting local families.”
Prelco Inc. offers expertise to architects, engineers and customers by providing innovative glass products for commercial buildings as well as the industrial and transportation markets.
“With the financial support from Opportunities NB, Prelco NB is proud to invest this year more than $250,000 in laser, tempering and energy technologies that will increase productivity,” said Michel Morin, assistant director to the vice-presidents at Prelco NB. “We will create at least 20 new jobs over the next three years which means that Prelco NB will then have more than 100 employees.”
The overall investment by the government and the company is expected to contribute about $1.8 million annually to the province’s gross domestic product. Many of the new jobs are manufacturing positions requiring various technical skills.
“As a government, we are focused on developing a supportive climate for businesses to create jobs by capitalizing on their ideas, their entrepreneurial spirit, and their hard work,” said Post-Secondary Education, Training and Labour Minister Francine Landry. “Prelco Inc. is a leading manufacturer of specialty glass with a number of applications in the architectural, transportation and defence sectors.
