The government, through Opportunities NB, is providing up to $54.3 million over the next three years to support New Brunswick companies as they modernize operations, improve productivity, strengthen long-term competitiveness and keep New Brunswickers working.
“Opportunities NB has remained highly responsive as businesses in New Brunswick navigate a changing economic landscape,” said Luke Randall, minister responsible for Opportunities NB. “When we invest in large companies, we are supporting companies that anchor our economy and create benefits felt across supply chains and in communities throughout the province. Opportunities NB’s tailored supports encourage businesses of all sizes across the province to invest in their operations to drive growth and keep our business community competitive.”
Opportunities NB is supporting companies with long-term growth plans rooted in New Brunswick. Investing in companies as they navigate the current economic climate is meant to improve the province’s long-term economic situation by providing stability to these businesses as they pursue growth.
Support is being provided to the following companies:
- Up to $2.4 million in the form of a non-repayable contribution for Agropur Cooperative, a dairy processor, to support modernization of its Miramichi facility and the expansion of milk processing capacity. The project includes upgrading equipment to improve operational efficiency and production flexibility. This is expected to increase annual production and create more than 10 new jobs.
- Up to $115,000 in the form of a payroll rebate for Alliance Seafood Inc., a value-added seafood processor, to support the creation of up to 28 new jobs at its Grand-Bouctouche facility. With this expansion, the company is leveraging its distribution network to grow its Regal brand, diversify into ready-to-eat seafood products and contribute to the local economy.
- Up to $15 million per year over three years to Irving Paper Ltd. to support the global competitiveness of New Brunswick’s only remaining paper mill during a period of significant cost pressure and market volatility. This investment is intended to help sustain operations, protecting more than 183 jobs and $20.6 million in annual payroll.
- Up to $3.8 million in conditionally repayable financial assistance to support Kelly Cove Salmon Ltd. in modernizing its salmon farming operations. This investment is expected to strengthen productivity and environmental performance in a key export-oriented sector. Kelly Cove Salmon Ltd. is a division of Cooke Aquaculture Inc., a New Brunswick–based company employing more than 1,500 people in the province.
- Up to $250,000 for Marwood’s Edmundston facility to expand operations, improve productivity and strengthen the company’s competitiveness to position it for future growth. Marwood employs 400 people through its operations, including about 250 in New Brunswick.
- Up to $2 million over two years to Organigram toward a capital investment to increase crop yields by 10 per cent and enhance efficiency. Organigram’s New Brunswick operation has more than 700 employees.
- Up to $800,000 in the form of a three-year payroll rebate for Stantec to create up to 124 new jobs. With 271 employees in New Brunswick, Stantec is committed to growth in the province by leveraging its talent pool to contribute to local projects and exporting its services around the world.
“During these uncertain times, resilience and economic sustainability have become critical issues impacting all New Brunswick workers, their families and their communities,” said Jennifer Murray, Atlantic regional director of Unifor, a private-sector union. “We applaud the government’s decision to stand up for New Brunswickers by keeping producers producing and workers working, while also supporting the long-term transformation of the forestry sector. This leadership will help New Brunswickers persevere through these difficult times, and our province will emerge stronger and more economically resilient.”
Opportunities NB updated its financial assistance policies in April 2025 to align support with shifting economic conditions, trade challenges and tariffs, and to be more flexible and responsive to the current needs of businesses.
