EDMUNDSTON (GNB) – Cornu Holding SA and its Canadian subsidiary, TBI, will establish a new artisan baked goods production facility in Edmundston, representing a $32.5 million investment and creating up to 50 new full-time jobs, with support from the provincial and municipal governments.
“This investment is another strong signal that New Brunswick is open for business,” said Luke Randall, minister responsible for Opportunities NB. “Companies are actively choosing our province in their international growth strategies. We are proud to welcome Cornu Canada to Edmundston and look forward to the positive impact this will have on the economy and the families who call this region home.”
The facility will produce the company’s flagship product, puff pastry flutes, for distribution across Canada and the United States. Operations are expected to begin once construction is complete and equipment is fully installed.
To support this investment, the provincial government, through Opportunities NB, is providing a payroll rebate of up to $575,000, tied to the creation of the up to 50 new full-time positions by the end of 2031. Additionally, a conditional grant of up to $1.1 million will support the purchase of equipment for the facility by the end of 2026. The project is expected to contribute up to $15.9 million in direct provincial GDP over five years.
Recruitment has begun, with employment opportunities available on the company’s website.
In addition to support from the government, this project is made possible through a contribution from the City of Edmundston, which is providing land for the facility.
“This project represents more than jobs and investment: it’s a vote of confidence in our people,” said Edmundston Mayor Eric Marquis. “After more than a year of collaboration and strategic municipal investments to prepare our industrial park, Cornu Canada recognized Edmundston as a community that works hard, welcomes new ideas and takes pride in doing things right. It reflects our commitment to attracting forward-looking businesses and building a sustainable local economy.”
Founded in 1934 in Switzerland, the family-owned company is known for its artisanal baked goods and advanced production methods. It operates six facilities across Switzerland, France and Romania, employs about 400 people and produces about 150 million puff pastry flutes annually for distribution in 55 countries. It serves major global retailers and holds multiple international food safety and sustainability certifications.
“Choosing Edmundston for our North American expansion was a strategic decision supported by Opportunities NB’s deep knowledge of the region, as well as the strong collaboration and enthusiasm shown by the City of Edmundston team,” said Marc-André Cornu, chair of Cornu Holding SA’s board of directors. “We are excited to build our team here and bring our high-quality, artisan products to a new market from our Canadian base.”
Opportunities NB is the lead business development agency for the province. It supports local businesses and attracts new investment from around the globe to boost economic and job growth.
