May 31, 2018, MONCTON (GNB) – Six New Brunswick Export Awards will be presented during a gala event in Moncton on June 14.
More than 30 companies are finalists for the awards that recognize outstanding export performance.
“Companies in New Brunswick have continued to prosper within the international marketplace,” said Economic Development Minister Francine Landry, who is also the minister responsible for Opportunities NB. “We are excited at the opportunity to recognize our New Brunswick entrepreneurs, and to celebrate their innovation and success.”
Opportunities NB will host the awards in partnership with the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency (ACOA).
“One of Canada’s strengths is that we have an enviable number of trade and investment agreements, and this is why we are committed to solidifying our country’s advantage, strengthening our existing trade relationships, and pursuing new opportunities in large and growing markets,” said federal Health Minister Ginette Petitpas Taylor. “The Government of Canada, through ACOA, is pleased to support initiatives such as the Export Awards, which renew a spirit of entrepreneurship while highlighting the region’s best exporters.”
Petitpas Taylor spoke on behalf of federal Innovation, Science and Economic Development Minister Navdeep Bains, who is also the minister responsible for ACOA.
There will be two Exporter of the Year awards: one for a company with export sales of less than $5 million and another for a company with export sales of more than $5 million.
Other awards being presented are:
- Emerging Exporter of the Year
- Global Diversification
- Innovative Exporter of the Year
- Foreign-Owned Exporter
The winners are selected by a panel of business experts from academia and the private sector. Judges are chosen based on their knowledge of the New Brunswick business community and international trade.
In addition, Opportunities NB will present an Impact Award for New Investment, recognizing a company that has had a significant effect on New Brunswick’s economy through an investment decision.
“When investors choose New Brunswick, they create opportunities for growth and development,” said Stephen Lund, CEO of Opportunities NB. “These companies contribute wealth to the province through job creation and support many other local businesses as part of their supply chains. Their investment works to create new technology, accelerate local growth and attract new skilled workers to New Brunswick.”
The awards are sponsored by: Atlantic Business Magazine, Bathurst Regional Airport, Belledune Port Authority, Business Development Bank of Canada, Export Development Canada, Fredericton International Airport, Greater Moncton Roméo LeBlanc International Airport, New Brunswick Innovation Foundation, Saint John Airport, Port Saint John and WestJet.
