April 18, 2017, CARAQUET (GNB) – Cheese maker Les Blancs d’Arcadie is increasing production with financial assistance from the provincial government.
The Caraquet company, which produces a variety of cheddars and soft and salted cheeses, has acquired new equipment that will allow for increased production capacity. The government is providing $50,000 to support this growth.
“The New Brunswick Economic Growth Plan identifies the local food and beverage industry as a growth opportunity,” said Economic Development Minister Francine Landry, who is also minister responsible for Opportunities NB. “Les Blancs d’Arcadie has a proven track record of success, and we are pleased to assist the company as it continues to grow.”
Opportunities NB has approved a non-repayable contribution of $30,000 from the Regional Development Corporation. The Department of Agriculture, Aquaculture and Fisheries is making a $20,000 non-repayable contribution from the Growing Forward 2 program.
“We thank Opportunities NB and the Department of Agriculture, Aquaculture and Fisheries for the support provided for this project,” said Bertin Doiron, manager of Les Blancs d’Arcadie. “This expansion will enable us to double our daily cheese production and seek out new customers.”
The company was founded in 1991 and was acquired by longtime employee Alberte Doiron in 2004. She and her sons, Bertin and Jean-Yves Doiron, have continued to develop new products, building a loyal customer base. The company now employs seven people in Caraquet, as well as two seasonal workers.
Opportunities NB is a Crown corporation that seeks to attract and support opportunities to grow the economy and create jobs. It provides support services for businesses across the province.
