June 20, 2019, FREDERICTON (GNB) – Twelve New Brunswick high school graduates have been honoured for writing essays that promote studying, working and living in their home province after graduation. Recipients of the NB Proud Awards, sponsored by Opportunities NB, each receive $1,000.
“This funding will help 12 high school graduates from all parts of the province achieve their post-secondary education goals,” said Economic Development and Small Business Minister Mary Wilson, who is also the minister responsible for Opportunities NB. “Successful futures are created through hard work, creativity and perseverance. We encourage students to pursue a quality education and follow their dreams at home in New Brunswick.”
Now in its fourth year, the NB Proud Award provides high school graduates with an award to help them attend a post-secondary educational institution within the province. To date, the corporation has given more than $40,000 to more than 40 students.
“It is critically important for companies to access great talent,” said Opportunities NB CEO Stephen Lund. “New Brunswick is a leader in new and exciting sectors, like cybersecurity and financial technology, and there are many great opportunities for our youth to live, work and be successful right here in New Brunswick.”
Opportunities NB received 310 essays.
The awards are aligned with the 12 provincial Regional Service Commissions.

- Mykella Martin, Cité des Jeunes A.-M.-Sormany, Saint-Joseph-de-Madawaska
- Nicholas Thériault, École Aux quatre vents, Dundee
- Olivia Charest, École secondaire Népisiguit, Beresford
- Shyann Bent, St. Malachy’s Memorial High School, Canal
