December 16, 2016, FREDERICTON (GNB) – Premier Brian Gallant told New Brunswick exporters his recent trade mission to China provided an opportunity for home-grown businesses to compete in new markets.

“As the most trade-oriented province in Canada, we must diversify our export markets,” said Gallant. “There are tremendous opportunities for market growth in Asia and Europe, and, as we have seen with the successful mission to China, New Brunswick businesses have quality products that can compete internationally.”

Five companies that participated in the October trade mission joined Gallant at a symposium in Fredericton. Cooke Aquaculture, Oxford Frozen Foods, SC&W Solutions, Prelam Enterprises and Wee College shared their experiences from the mission and offered market advice.

“Economic growth has positioned the Chinese economy as one of the fastest growing and largest economies in the world,” said Economic Development Minister Francine Landry. “By increasing our exports to other markets, we are helping to grow our economy, create jobs and make life better for New Brunswick families.”

Among the groups making presentations at the symposium were the Canada-China Business Council, Sunrise Group, Global Affairs Canada, and the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China.

“The response for our New Brunswick companies in China was overwhelmingly positive,” said Stephen Lund, CEO of Opportunities NB. “This session was an inspiration to other New Brunswick companies looking to grow their export sales.”

Lund, who opened the symposium and moderated a panel session, said Opportunities NB is working to prepare and support New Brunswick exporters who want to enter these global markets.

Opportunities NB is a Crown corporation that seeks to attract and support opportunities to grow the economy and create jobs. It provides support services for businesses across the province.
