March 24, 2016, FLORENCEVILLE-BRISTOL (GNB) – Premier Brian Gallant and David Drury, general manager of global technology services at IBM Canada, visited the McCain Foods data centre in Florenceville-Bristol, where 40 new jobs are being created.
Last April, IBM signed a services agreement to provide McCain Foods’ global operations with system infrastructure support, resiliency, security and mobility.
“As a global company, McCain Foods understands the need for cybersecurity,” said Gallant. “The company has been a leader in cybersecurity for decades, and now, by partnering with IBM, it will help establish New Brunswick as a cybersecurity hub.”
IBM, a world leader in information technology (IT) and cybersecurity, announced earlier this week it is expanding its operations in New Brunswick, creating up to 250 new full-time jobs during the next three years, including 40 new jobs in Florenceville-Bristol, 110 new jobs in Saint John and 100 new jobs in Fredericton in cybersecurity.
“This economic development investment will create a hub of IT and security technology expertise, as well as high-value jobs in New Brunswick,” said Drury. “Together, we are planting these economic development seeds to help transition the province into a knowledge worker economy that can positively tackle challenges such as the monumental growth of cybercrime for the benefit of all Canadians and organizations worldwide.”
The new employees will help IBM develop core skills as the IT industry shifts from systems integration to a services integration model.
The IBM Security QRadar analyzes data across an organization’s IT infrastructure to identify potential security threats. It also serves as the “brains” of IBM’s 10 security operation centres around the globe. The technology is primarily designed, built, tested and supported in New Brunswick.
