2019 Export Awards finalists announced

FREDERICTON (GNB) – New Brunswick’s highest-performing export companies will be honoured with special awards during a gala event in Saint John on June 13.

Twenty-eight companies have been named finalists for the 2019 Export Awards, an event that recognizes the importance of exports to economic development.

“The Export Awards are an excellent opportunity to highlight the successes of New Brunswick exporters and recognize the hard work of our small and medium-sized businesses,” said Economic Development and Small Business Minister Mary Wilson, who is also minister responsible for Opportunities NB. “These innovative companies are leading the way toward an energized private sector and economic growth in the province.”

Opportunities NB will host the awards gala in partnership with the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency (ACOA).

“Increasing trade and international business development is critical to the future of New Brunswick’s economy. Our province has a long history of prospering through trade and offers very diversified products and services to global markets, which means we have a lot of strengths to keep building on,” said Saint John-Rothesay MP Wayne Long. “The Government of Canada, through ACOA, is committed to helping foster the spirit of entrepreneurship, international development, and growth. We are proud to support initiatives like the Export Awards that recognize and celebrate the region’s best exporters, and I would like to congratulate all the nominees.”

Long commented for federal Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development Navdeep Bains, who is also minister responsible for ACOA.

There will be two Exporter of the Year awards: one for a company with export sales of less than $5 million and another for a company with export sales of more than $5 million.

The remaining awards are presented in three categories:

•           Emerging Exporter of the Year

•           Global Diversification

•           Innovative Exporter of the Year

The winners are selected by a panel of experts from industry and academia. Judges are chosen based on their knowledge of the New Brunswick business community and international trade.

In addition, Opportunities NB will present the Impact Award for New Investment, recognizing a company that has had a significant impact on New Brunswick’s economy through an investment decision.

“At Opportunities NB, we know that exporting matters,” said Opportunities NB CEO Stephen Lund. “With 43 per cent of Atlantic exports originating in New Brunswick, our province has taken the regional lead. These companies help open our province up to new markets and opportunities. By providing New Brunswick businesses with the effective support, guidance and tools they need, we can keep our economy competitive and diverse.”

The awards are sponsored by: Grant Thornton, Atlantic Business Magazine, Belledune Port Authority, Business Development Bank of Canada, Canadian Manufacturers and Exporters NB-PEI Divisions, Export Development Canada, Fredericton International Airport, Greater Moncton Roméo LeBlanc International Airport, New Brunswick Innovation Foundation, Saint John Airport, Port Saint John and Western Union Business Solutions.
