SAINT JOHN (GNB) – New Brunswick welcomed delegates from both sides of the border as it hosted the Southeastern United States – Canadian Provinces Conference Sunday through Tuesday in Saint John.
The event brought together leaders from business, government and economic development agencies to strengthen cross-border partnerships, explore investment opportunities and build momentum around shared economic priorities.
“New Brunswick was proud to welcome the Southeastern United States – Canadian Provinces Conference, right here in Saint John,” said Premier Susan Holt. “As good neighbours and strong partners, we’ll continue to build and nurture these vital connections and ensure the alliance continues to drive growth on both sides of the border.”
This year’s conference broke attendance records, with more than 240 delegates registered, more than 95 companies represented and more than 1,100 business-to-business meetings scheduled. New Brunswick, which last hosted the conference in 2011, is one of the founding Canadian members of the alliance.
The conference featured keynote speakers, business-to-business matchmaking sessions and panel discussions focused on three industries: value-added food, manufacturing and energy.
“This conference was a powerful reminder of the strength of New Brunswick’s business community,” said Luke Randall, minister responsible for Opportunities NB. “By welcoming our partners to Saint John, we showcased what our province has to offer and built lasting relationships that support cross-border trade and investment, innovation and economic growth.”
Members of the alliance are Alabama, Georgia, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador, Nova Scotia, Ontario, Prince Edward Island and Quebec.
“This event gave us the opportunity to connect with potential partners and clients we wouldn’t have reached otherwise,” said Darren Gallen, business development manager for Maritime Hydraulic, a Moncton-based manufacturer. “It reinforced the value of our cross-border relationships and created new pathways for future growth as we continue to diversify our markets internationally.”
The Southeastern United States – Canadian Provinces Alliance was established in 2007 to promote trade, investment and collaboration among member provinces and states. Hosting duties alternate each year between Canada and the United States. Next year’s conference will take place in South Carolina.
Opportunities NB is a Crown corporation and the lead economic development agency for the province. It seeks to attract and support opportunities to stimulate economic growth and create jobs by providing support services for businesses.
